9.b.7 – Energy Efficiency Refurbishment

Energy efficiency refurbishment must be limited to comprehensive building renovations based on professionally prepared projects with a special emphasis on the preservation of the architecture’s authenticity. The development of solutions for the refurbishment of residential blocks requires a balance between existing architectural qualities and newly implemented interventions. Balanced solutions can develop by carefully analysing the architectural and cultural value of an existing building, assessing which features must be preserved to preserve the architectural expression of the building, and what is permissible to change to improve the technical efficiency of the building.

When thinking about retrofiting building it is necessary to find a sustainable balance between five criteria: energy savings, thermal comfort in winter and summer, moisture damage and cultural heritage.

When we talk about the energy renovation of the building, we usually think about good thermal insulation of the facade. But this is just one possible way.
